Tara Chernekoff

Tara is one of our regulars at 5am CrossFit or 12:15 BeachFit. She has always been a pretty fit athlete, but has recently dedicated herself to being strict with her nutrition and the results are phenomenal!

Read her story and say congrats next time you find her sweating next to you in class!

Tell us a little about yourself.  

I am a 31-year-old Executive Assistant and manage the seminar and meeting department of a dental management company who provides courses to dentist who are implementing dental sleep medicine (sleep apnea treatment) and billing medical insurance to provide higher reimbursement for patients.  I have been married for 7 years to undoubtedly one of the most patient and understanding people on this earth and have 3 crazy children.

What’s something about you that others may not know about you? Any special talents, hobbies, or interests?      

I was a swimmer for 8 years.

What do you like to do outside the gym?

If I’m not at the gym or working then I am most likely at one of the kids sporting events, knee deep into another home improvement project or boating.

When did you start CrossFit?  Why did you decide to join CrossFit at that time?  What do you remember most about when you first started?

I started CrossFit 6 years ago at Cat5.  I was extremely hesitant to join, I had zero weight lifting experience and had never really touched dumbbells let alone a barbell.  I was super frustrated because I gained a whopping 55lbs while I was pregnant and standing only 5 foot it was A LOT of extra weight.  I had finally lost most of the weight about 9-10 months post-partum through unhealthy starvation methods, but I hated my body and my clothes still didn’t fit.  My husband came across Cat5 and had to practically drag me through the door I was SO far outside of my comfort zone, but I was instantly hooked! I loved everything about it and NEEDED to go every day!  The people, the vibe, the community emitted this energy that I couldn’t and still cannot get enough of!  CrossFit is my favorite hour of the day!

What new beliefs or behaviors have you adopted since you started CrossFit that have positively impacted your life? 

One of the things that I believe has been the most impactful is learning to be comfortable with uncomfortable or unknown situations.  CrossFit has given me so much confidence in and out of the gym, it translates to everything in my life now.  I no longer feel paralyzed by things that seem outside of my control.  I’ve learned to take all things in stride, sometimes I begin a workout thinking I know exactly how it might go and am served a giant slice of humble pie right in the middle, but you have to keep going- do one more rep, and then one more after that, and the next thing you know it’s over and you’ve finished.

What has been your most memorable workout?

Freaking Fran!  I have switched gyms and dropped into a few and my first days always seems to be FRAN!  And I am NOT a huge fan of thrusters.

Do you have a favorite quote or motto that you live by?

“Let it be” I’m a huge Beatles fan and this one is just so applicable to so many things in my life.

What is the most worthwhile investment you have made since starting CrossFit?

Nutrition coaching, what a difference this has made in my body, strength and almost all my workouts.

What do you do on days when you don’t “feel” like going to the gym, what keeps you motivated?

#TEAMNODAYSOFF ;P Except for Sundays because that is our family day.

What do you love most about CrossFit Palm Beach?  

CrossFit Palm Beach is like no other gym I have ever been in.  The quality in everything is outstanding- Coaches, equipment, programing, the members!  It is so obvious how much the owners and coaches truly care!

What have you become better at saying “no” to since you started CrossFit

Drinking/partying.  If you surround yourself with likeminded people you have to say no way less often.
