February Athlete of the Month – Allison Fredericks
Meet our February female athlete of the month, Allison Fredericks. She was chosen by her coaches because of her uplifting attitude in classes and her dedication to her fitness journey (she has been known to text coaches asking for workout ideas while away for the summer in Pennsylvania!) Allison pours energy into every detail of her workouts and her hard work is really paying off. She pushes herself to try new weights or movements each day and her progress is fun for us to watch! Read about her journey in her interview below.
Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi! I am 34 years old and I am a 7th grade math teacher at Independence Middle school. I am married for 9 years to Matthew. We are originally from PA and we don’t have any of our own children we each teach 100 kids a day!
What do you like to do outside the gym?
I like to go shopping especially for a good deal, go to the beach, hang out with friends and visit my family in PA.
When did you start CrossFit? Why did you decide to join CrossFit at that time? What do you remember most about when you first started?
I attended my first bring-a-friend Saturday CrossFit class with Sammi Voss back in April of 2015. I then joined the fundamentals class at the end of April 2015. The time and teaching the coaches put into the classes was amazing and personable. I then decided to join. I did CrossFit until May of 2016. I always travel to PA in the summer and miss committed club by one month because of this so I put my membership on hold and upon my return I decided to try the BeachFit program. I have been doing it ever since. I thoroughly enjoy the BeachFit program for the variety, the length of the workouts, the amazing coaches, and The feeling of success after most of the workouts.
What new beliefs, habits or behaviors have you adopted since you started Beachfit/Crossfit, that have positively impacted your life?
You can do anything you put your mind to. I can’t say I am the most athletic person but I am very proud of many of the accomplishments I have competed over the past 3 years at CrossFit Palm Beach. I never thought of being as competitive as I have become either. I attribute that to the amazing members at the gym who are always there to cheer each other on. A habit I have created was that I want to go to the gym 4-6 times a week. Most of the time 5:30am BeachFit fits my schedule the best. The 5:30am crew is so much fun and always so supportive of each other.
What has been your most memorable workout?
I can’t name a specific workout off the top of my head, but May of 2017 I completed half Murph and was so excited that I finished. Scaled of course, ran mile at the beginning and a mile at the end and did knee pushups. I
was away last year so I am hoping to do it again this year. I am excited for the BeachFit Spartan as well!
Do you have a favorite quote or motto that you live by?
Everyone Matters and Dance as if no one is watching, love like you have never been hurt, sing as if no one is listening, and Live as heaven is on earth!
What is the most worthwhile investment you have made since starting CrossFit Palm Beach?
I have spoken to Coach Tony multiple times expressing how hard I work out but didn’t eat right and wasn’t too pleased with my scale. He provided a few suggestions and then the nutrition challenge of 2019 came out. I decided to financially make it work and go all in. I was so happy Matt decided to do it with me as well. We are three weeks in, and I am so happy I decided to do this. I am seeing positive results and asking questions as they arise. For sure there are ups and downs, weekends being my most difficult obstacle so far, But I just keep plugging along. I feel this lifestyle change is the most worthwhile investment I have made in a long time
What do you do on days when you don’t “feel” like going to the gym, what keeps you motivated?
I get up and go! Once I finished the workout I am so happy I came and did it. The committed club keeps me motivated as well as knowing it’s a financial investment so why not use it.
What do you love most about CrossFit Palm Beach?
I love the constant variety, camaraderie, the coaches, staff, cleanliness of the facilities, awesome equipment we get to use and most of all the class environment is always so positive!
