Congratulations J.J. Hoecker
He was chosen as athlete of the month because of his hard work and consistency in the early 5 and 6 am classes. It isn’t easy to wake up 5 days a week with a smile on your face, but somehow J.J. is here on time, ready to work hard, and as friendly as ever. It certainly pays off because J.J. has made incredible progress in just over 2 years of being with us. Read more about his fitness journey below.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m 28 years old and was born and raised in Jupiter, FL. I work for RAM which is a commercial real estate development company that acquires, develops, manages and finances retail and multifamily properties in the Southeast.
I recently got married to my college sweetheart, Noelle, this past October. My kids are in the form an overweight cat named Reese and a dog named Oakley.
What do you like to do outside the gym?
Surfing, boating, playing golf, and taking our dog Oakley to the beach/park.
When did you start CrossFit? Why did you decide to join CrossFit at that time? What do you remember most about when you first started?
I started CrossFit about 2.5 years ago. I’ve always been fitness and sports oriented and loved competition. The monotony of a typical gym setting started to really wear on me and I wanted to make a change. I had some friends, one of which is my now brother-in-law and CFPB member Christian, that were into CrossFit and were telling me how much they loved it. I had my introductory class and I was instantly hooked.
What new beliefs, habits or behaviors since you started Beachfit/Crossfit, have most positively impacted your life?
I don’t think it’s necessarily a new belief but something that I may have forgotten that was reinforced during my time with CFPB.
What has been your mostmemorable workout?
Probably would say 17.2 of the Open. That morning was my first ever bar muscle-up which is now one of my favorite movements.
Do you have a favorite quote or motto that you live by?
“No one is in charge of your happiness. Except you”
What do you do on days when you don’t “feel” like going to the gym, what keeps you motivated?
The friendly competition amongst my 6:00 AM crew is one of my biggest motivators. I know my mental state and energy is going to be better if I get my workout in, so I’ll push myself if I’m feeling a little extra banged up and sore. Even if that means attending 6:00 PM instead.
What do you love most about CrossFit Palm Beach?
Without question it’s the community and the coaches. Everyone comes in wide-eyed when they first walk-in. The facilities and equipment are certainly something to admire, but it’s the people that truly set it apart.
